What were the most exciting bits and what hurdles did you need to jump over? In the beginning it was very hard to balance my time - I would just work, work, work. I did all my own sourcing of fabric, design and sewing during the week and till late in the evening. Come the weekend I'd take my creations to the market. So I'd say learning to balance my time between work and give my priority time to my family has been a big juggle. I just love to help make people feel good about themselves by creating a unique garment that flatters their unique body shape. It gives me such a sense of accomplishment! What does a typical day look like for you? I always start with a super strong coffee and computer work, followed by a gym workout to get me going. In between that I get my two girls off to school. Once I've sorted them I can get on to my fave part of the day - creating! I take my time choosing the right design for each individual piece of crochet lace and then making them up into garments. Oh look - it's 3 o'clock already and I have to pick up the girls. After school pick up, afternoon tea, home work and dinner I get back on to the computer side of things and chat with my customers. I do love them and have built up lovely friendships with many of them. Fashion is a competitive industry. Have you ever felt like giving up? I think all the rain last year put a dampener on me & quite a few other small businesses but I can honestly say I never thought of giving it up. By not following fashion trends my pieces remain timeless & less competitive. What inspires and motivates you? It would have to be all the fabulous testimonials from customers. They keep me motivated and excited. They let me know if something is a hit or a miss - listening to them really keep me focused on their needs. Where would you like to see Chuckles Clothing in 5 years? I'd love Chuckles Clothing to be available in more boutiques throughout Australia, as well as online, while maintaining the charm and distinct design that Chuckles is known for.
