Woven by Society
How long have you been making your clothing? I have now been making and selling my women’s clothing ranges since 2017. What is your greatest inspiration and how did you get started? I am inspired by the emerging designers and creatives I meet each day – women who have embraced their creativity and are passionate about it. I took a risk when leaving corporate life to start Woven by Society, and although some days are hard and challenging, I have never regretted it. What is the greatest challenge to owning and operating your own business? One of my biggest challenges to operating my own business is confidence. Knowing to trust yourself and follow instinct. If I like some fabric, now I know to buy it and create with it. I don’t want to follow trends that I think will sell, I want to stay true to myself and my judgement and know my brand. What is the best thing about owning your own creative business? One of the greatest things about operating my own business is having creative freedom and reaching and empowering others. I absolutely love wearing clothing that I know no one else has, and I am thrilled to be able to offer this to others. I find it incredibly empowering to wear something unique and individual and I love being able to share that. |
Hello I’m Robyn, I am the founder of Woven by Society. A few years ago I left the corporate life to follow a passion of mine – sewing and handmade items. I established Woven by Society and started to run sewing workshops and provide opportunities for women to connect and build community. I want to help empower others to not only teach, but learn and share.
After about a year of running sewing classes and wanting to expand my business more, I decided to start making (and selling) women’s clothing - each piece being unique and individual to reflect that as women we are too. I loved the idea of one person being the only person to have that unique piece. The designs are often basic, as I let the fabrics speak for themselves and use them as the showpiece. With my left over pieces of fabric, I make zip purses, brooches and re-usable book covers. This helps me use all the fabric pieces as well as provide different items (not only adding to my creative outlet, but offering different options and price points for people to access).
