Stone and Canvas Portraits
I am a self taught artist and my interest in art began at a young age (a long, long time ago). As an only child I had a lot of time to myself so I would lock myself away in my room with a pencil and piece of charcoal and draw on anything I could find. I still have a lion that I sketched on a big piece of brown wrapping paper that I salvaged from the bin.
"I have evolved into a pet portrait artist and paint commissions of much loved pets on river rocks as well as traditional portraits on canvas. I love the 3D effect of painting on the rocks – the animals seem to come to life. I call these portraits “Rock Stars” and when I am not painting a commission I paint many other creatures on rocks. I buy all my rocks at a landscaping supplier in Brisbane and can often be found climbing the mounds of rocks waiting for a guinea pig, turtle, penguin or some other critter to call out to me. Animals have such a depth of soul and character and I try to depict that in my painting. I love taking commission portraits of much loved pets. As well as my animal rocks, I create pebble art stories and paint bright and colourful terracotta pots."
