Silver Glass Fusion
How long have you been making
I have always created, art is my passion. It was a natural progression after high school to go to Art College to study Fine Art and then into owning my own business. So, officially I have been creating for 35 years, unofficially most of my life. How did you get started My formal training started when I attended art college to do a diploma of Fine art. It was three years of study... Monday to Friday, 9-5. What is your greatest inspiration My greatest inspiration comes from the colour of the world around me,Nature is a great colour mixer, the combinations just work. I made the seachange from the hinterland to the coast 2 years ago. I love to watch the constantly changing shape and colours of the waves. What is the greatest challenge to owning and operation your own business My biggest challenge is keeping up with the high volume of work that needs to be done and trying to find a balance between social and work. I tend to live and breathe my business. I am probably the hardest boss that I’ve ever worked for. What is the best thing about owning your own creative business The best thing about owning my own creative business in not being stuck in a workplace from Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. Being able to work my own hours. If I feel like working at 10 pm, I do. If I feel like going for a hike with my friends at 2pm, I do. I like that I can solely focus on my creativity, there doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day for my ideas. |
Working from my studio at the Sunshine Coast, I am inspired by the ocean and by the world of colour around me.
I started my creative journey at the Queensland College of Art, majoring in Gold & Silversmithing. I then worked for many years as a manufacturing jeweler mainly designing and making engagement and wedding rings. About 10 years ago I discovered glass, there started a total obsession. I went to a workshop and learnt to make glass cabochons to set in my jewellery. I was amazed by array of colour and patterns I could create in my workshop. Three kilns and many hours later, I have cut kilometres of glass. I am continually learning, experimenting and inspired to create more. Now building my confidance in enamelling, I am adding that mediun to my love of creating. |
