Pennybright Studios
We are a mother and daughter creative team, Glynnis Murray and Vanessa Witschi, based in country Victoria. Both of us have been surrounded by crafty families all our lives, and have always found joy in creating things. We are established polymer clay artists consolidating and combining our wide range of craft skills into a fabric sculpture adventure! We machine stitch, hand sew and needle sculpt fabrics (upcycled where possible) to create one of a kind soft sculptured fauna and flora, in a vintage style. We are combining these techniques with the use of polymer clay, paint, pastels, water colour pencils & Copic pens to enhance our creations. Finishing details like individually applied whiskers and eyelashes (where applicable) serve to distinguish our creations. Each creature is individually decorated with handmade clothing and accessories. Facebook: www.facebook.com/pennybrightstudios Etsy store: https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/PennybrightStudios |
How long have you been making your product?
We are just starting out on our fabric adventure! We have been planning, sourcing and creating since May 2014. But we have been learning techniques and cultivating our creativity for many years before that! How did you get started? We had always been admirers of fabric sculptors and sculptures and decided to combine our love of textiles, painting and creating to work together on a range of fabric art dolls. What is your greatest inspiration? We find inspiration all around us! Colours and textures found in nature regularly inspire us. We also find great inspiration in the animals themselves. Combined with a love of vintage fabrics, we dream and create our soft sculptures to emphasise and represent those colours & textures that have inspired us. What is the greatest challenge to owning and operating your own business? The greatest challenge to owning and operating our business is finding time to do everything! Thankfully our skills are complimentary and we have divided up all the tasks according to our strengths, which allows the greatest amount of time for us to actually create the soft sculptures! What is the best thing about owning and operating your own business? The best thing is definitely being able to work together. We have a fantastic relationship, and spending our time together, dreaming, planning and creating is wonderful. Our other favourite thing is the freedom operating our own business brings. We can make what we’d like to make, how we’d like to make it. If we need time to learn a new skill, we can take the time. If we need to rearrange our priorities, we can! We just love following our dreams, passion and muse, wherever this fabric adventure takes us! |
