Livie Rose Designs
My name is Rose Mercer and I am a jewellery artist with a seamstress’ heart.
Having grown up in the bush of southern NSW in a creative family, I learnt my way around a sewing machine at a young age.
After finishing school I focused on jewellery, designing and selling at markets whilst travelling.
Having settled in the lush tropical forest of Far North Queensland I continued designing jewellery as well as sewing for myself and my two young children.
Wanting to combine my two loves I developed my latest range of textile jewellery. Inspired by natural products I endeavour to use only natural fibres, recycled and vintage fabrics to create beautiful and unique jewellery.
How long have you been making your jewellery?
My line of textile jewellery I have been working on since 2014, but have been designing and making jewellery and clothing since I was at high school.
How did you get started?
My textile jewellery came about from wanting to combine my two favourite activities...sewing and jewellery making. After a few trials of knitted and crochet jewellery I developed my range of fabric cord jewellery and haven't look back since.
What's your greatest inspiration?
Beautiful textiles have always been an inspiration to me. I love natural fibres, hand woven fabrics and the range of colours they come in. In my jewellery I only use 100% cotton fabrics and recycled or vintage whenever possible.
What is the greatest challenge to owning and operating your own business?
For me the greatest challenge is the marketing side of my business. I am happy staying at home creating all day long, but I would end up with cupboards full of stuff if I didn't get it out there for other people to enjoy.
What's the greatest thing about owning your own creative business?
Being to stay at home with my two young children is the best thing for me. Even though that can be the biggest challenge too...
