Dream Into Being - Marieke Van der Leest
As a child I was constantly exploring and playing with the power of imagination. When I was 13 I moved with my family to the Canary Islands after spending my childhood in the South Pacific and to my surprise I began to express myself through art making very elaborate designs.
Since that time I have continued my creative journey for self expression, meditation and reflection. As a self-taught artist and therapist I understand how healing art is and how it can speak to us beyond words and move us into a place of deeper body-mind awareness, in-sight and joy.
My paintings come into being through meditation, my imagery practice or my night dreams. I pant primarily from imagination and embody what I paint as much as I can as I go about bringing the imagery into being through color, shape and dimension. I inspire to capture the magic of imagination and dream into being creations to ignite a sense of wonder and beauty.
Towards the end of each creation I write poetry that comes naturally as an innate part that further speaks of each paintings essence.
I facilitate therapeutic 'Dream Into Being' Art-Imagery Workshops throughout Australia and offer private 1:1 Creative Expression Coaching and am available for commission work.
How long have you been painting?
I began my first commission work in 2010 and since then have continued to do my original paintings, business logos and commissions and display my work in various places on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.
How did you get started?
I have been painting for a very long time and I did not expect to be selling my art as I was painting for my own enjoyment and self expression. However over time friends started to see my creations and began to request commissions and since then it has just unfolded naturally and taken on a life of its own!
What is your greatest inspiration?
My inspiration is to bring to life the beauty, magic and wonder of imagination through color, form and dimension and to touch others beyond what words can.
What is the greatest challenge to owning and operating your own business?
I find it's the dance of needing the time to delve deep into the creative space and the actual running of the business.
What is the best thing about owning your own creative business?
Its in the forever unfolding expansion of idea's and people to assist and journey with into shared creative projects and dreaming creativity into being so that others can enjoy it also that is so joyful and rewarding.
