I consider myself very lucky!
I had a wonderful childhood growing up with a loving family in the amazing Australian bush. Memories of laughter, horse riding, swimming in the creek and dressing up in crazy clothes. Then off to Sydney to study a B.A in Fashion Design at Sydney College the Arts. I was 18 & ready to start life.
The next 10 years were saturated with working in the Fashion Industry, trips to China & Hong Kong, designing fabrics & finished garments. All that study was paying dividends. Then marriage, 3 beautiful boys and another degree – a post graduate in Education. It seemed that teaching may best suit my growing busy family.
However, my creative juices started itching again … so then came the best decision I have ever made. A sea change to the beautiful rolling hills and rainforests of the Byron Bay Hinterland, and become a full time artist. My wonderful family, the quirky villages, amazing landscapes and eclectic mix of people now ignite my passion to paint. I didn't know it at the time - but my journey to creating a successful business from my passion had just begun!
I now own, run, create and live Donna Sharam Art Gallery.
Painting is my passion and colour is my vision. I think, breathe & even dream in colour! The overwhelming sentiment of my art is my ‘love of life’. My work is full of optimism and positive energy and my hope is that when buying my work, that this energy is transferred to your life and environment.
How long have you been creating?
I have always loved creating. From an early age I dressed up in the most colourful outfits, dyed my hair purple and wore different colour shoes. My infatuation with creating flowed into a career as a fashion designer and now manifests itself in my art.
How did you get started?
I didn’t really 'get started' ….. I just couldn’t help doing what I was soooo very passionate about and it grew into a business.
What is your greatest inspiration?
I love my life …. I just can't say it enough. THAT is my greatest inspiration – everything around me! I live in the most amazing place in Australia and I feel this country offers an abundance of opportunity. I choose very much to focus on and delight in the 90% of things that are good & working in my life rather complain about the 10% of things that aren’t.
What is the greatest challenge to owning and operating your own business?
Having too many ideas and not enough time to paint them all :)
What is the best experience owning your own creative business?
I LOVE my life and I love sharing that with others through my art. I love creating art and I love create happy customers. I delight in giving my customers more than they have asked for. I have lots of returning customers and lots who find me through the good word of others. This is a real highlight for me.
