Divinely Wrapped Up
How long have you been making wire wrapped jewellery?
I have been making wire wrapped jewellery for about 2 years. How did you get started? Wire wrapping developed as a result of being surrounded by beautiful stones and crystals. Hundreds of hours of research and practice then followed. What is your greatest inspiration? Nature. I am constantly in awe of the range and colours of gemstones and crystals that the earth provides. I also have an affinity for trees and the tree of life features on many of my pieces. What is the greatest challenge to owning and operating your own business? It’s very early days but I find putting myself ‘out there’ a challenge. I’m much more comfortable noodling for opal in the Grawin mullock heaps. What is the best thing about owning your own creative business? Getting to do what I love every single day. I also love that each stone tells a unique story and that my creativity and skills are constantly challenged and developed. |
Hi. My name is Jacqui and I am a self-taught wire wrapping jewellery artist.
I generally work with copper and sterling silver wire. My gemstone, crystal and sea glass wire wrapping is inspired by nature and all things shiny. I am in my absolute element out in nature, whether it be in remote areas of Australia fossicking for gemstones or combing the beaches for sea glass. My passion for wire wrapping developed after my Dad introduced me to gemstones and crystals about 10 years ago. I definitely caught his love for fossicking, tumbling and cabochoning gemstones, and between the families, it didn’t take long before we had rocks everywhere! Wire wrapping allowed these beautiful stones to be showcased in a unique way. I love that wire wrapping dates back to ancient times and all that is required is a simple length of wire and a pair (ok maybe more than one pair) of pliers. I also love that wire wrapping can be kept simple, or intricate, and as I develop my skills I find myself tapping into the flow of the wire and stone more and more. All in all, I find my joy in both the wire wrapping and in the energies that the gemstones and crystals provide. My hope is that people feel as good wearing my jewellery, as what I feel making it.
