At Bushwalk Candles we make beeswax candles that embrace the essence of the Australian bush. Our connection to the bush is inherited from a long history of proud Australians and story tellers, and we use these memories to inspire and create our range of authentic Australian scented beeswax candles.
Back in May 2015 we made a conscious decision to celebrate the amazing scents of the Australian bush. This decision meant that we had to find an alternative to using imported soy wax, we wanted our candles to be all Australian. That is where our adventure with beeswax began. Harder, hotter and less forgiving than soy wax, beeswax tested our expertise and patience but it has also taught us to appreciate the brilliance of the honey bee and the beautiful natural scent of beeswax candles. Beeswax is the safest and purest natural wax to use in candle making. We don't add any toxic, foreign genetically modified waxes or oils into our candles. Our scents are Australian made, non-toxic, vegan and cruelty free. We care as much about our candle making environment as we do about your candle burning experience. Bushwalk Candles are handmade using natural beeswax sourced from local bee keepers in South East Queensland. We use first melt beeswax that still holds some of the delicious golden honey within its cells. This pure beeswax blends perfectly with our bush scents and oils to create our amazing bush scented beeswax candles. We hope that you find a scent that reflects what Australia smells like to you! How long have you been making your candles?
We launched Bushwalk Candles three years ago, in May 2015. How did you get started? We had a very successful candle company called Vintage & Vanilla and then we made the decision three years ago to focus on Australian scents. That resulted in a re-brand and a permanent move from imported soy wax to Australian beeswax. It just felt right. That was one of the best decisions we have ever made, and we are so proud of our little Aussie beeswax candle company. What is your greatest inspiration? Australia is our inspiration. We have amazing natural scents, plant oils and bush tucker that are uniquely Australian and they deserve to be celebrated. We also have hundreds of bee keepers that have grabbed hold of the bee crisis and run with it, luckily for us this means lots of lovely, local beeswax! What do you see as your greatest challenge? Our greatest challenge is time. Bushwalk Candles fits in around our full time jobs so we make candles at 5am, sometimes at 8pm, and almost always on weekends. We have learned to be organised to keep things running smoothly. Together we are candlemakers, social media gurus, couriers, bookkeepers, product developers and all round assistants. What is the best thing about owning your own creative business? We love Bushwalk Candles because it loves us back. We continue to meet the most amazing and talented people through our candles, and we are very thankful for that. |
